From Humble Beginnings to a Beacon of Faith and Education

A vibrant milestone of faith, service, and community building was celebrated as the Adorno Fathers marked the fifth anniversary of their mission in Karumwa. What began as a humble effort has grown into a flourishing parish and a beacon of education, reflecting God’s faithfulness and the commitment of those who answered His call.

A Journey of Providence and Partnership

The mission in Tanzania, a hallmark achievement of the Adorno Fathers, took root from a providential encounter six years ago during a solemn profession of the Sisters of Charity of St. Charles Borromeo in Arusha. Fr. Mkulukulu CRM, the first parish priest, met Fr. Christopher Magesa, a priest from the Diocese of Geita, leading to a partnership with Bishop Flavian Kassala. Speaking on the occasion, Fr. Teodoro O. Kalaw, CRM, the Father General of the Order, highlighted this providential journey as a testament to God’s guiding hand.

“We extend heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency, Bishop Flavian, for his warm welcome and trust,” Fr. Kalaw stated. “From the moment I first set foot in this beautiful land, I felt its silent yet urgent plea for laborers in the vineyard.”

A Testament to Faithful Labor

Over the past five years, the mission has witnessed the construction of a magnificent church and an adjoining school, which now stand as enduring symbols of God’s providence and the faith of the Karumwa community. Fr. Kalaw recognized the tireless work of the Adorno Fathers and their collaborators, including Fr. Emmanuel CRM, Fr. Jean CRM, and Fr. Jonas CRM, for their leadership and sacrifices.

He also paid tribute to past benefactors and collaborators: “We remember the generosity of the late Andrea Trapanese and the partnership with AMR—Alfonso Meri Romano—Onlus from Italy. Their support has been instrumental in creating a place of learning that nurtures both minds and hearts.”

Inspiration from the Saints

The spiritual legacy of St. Rita, patroness of the parish, and St. Francis Caracciolo, founder of the Order, was a central theme of the celebration. Fr. Kalaw reflected on St. Rita’s example of holiness through faithful choices, even in adversity, and on St. Francis’s profound humility rooted in the Eucharist. He urged the faithful to draw strength from these examples. “Holiness is not about perfection but about faithfulness to God’s call,” Fr. Kalaw said, adding that the Eucharist must continue to sustain the mission’s life and ministry.

A Community of Hope

The celebration coincided with the Jubilee Year under the theme, Pilgrimage of Hope. Fr. Kalaw pointed to the flourishing mission as a living embodiment of this hope. He encouraged the faithful to view the new church and school not merely as structures but as signs of God’s enduring presence. “To the people of this parish—you are the Church,” he emphasized. “Your unity, dedication, and synodal spirit have brought forth incredible fruit. Let us journey forward with unwavering faith, confident that God, who began this good work, will bring it to completion.” The celebration concluded with a call to continued faith, hope, and love, as the Karumwa mission continues to shine as a light of God’s providence and a source of hope for future generations.
